What is Block Paving Cleaning & Restoration in Bournemouth & Poole?

Block Paving Cleaning & Restoration in Bournemouth & Poole service

Block paving does not just get dirty. The colour fades, weeds get into the gaps, and the sand in the joints washes out over time so the blocks start to shift. A quick clean on its own will not fix that. It might even make it worse by blowing what is left of the sand out of the joints.

So we do not just blast it and leave. We clean it, treat it, then re-sand the joints with kiln-dried sand. That last step is the bit a lot of people skip, and it is the whole point. The sand is what locks the blocks back together so they stay put and the weeds stay out. That is the difference between paving that has just been cleaned and paving that has actually been restored.

Before we get to the job we have already decided how we are cleaning it, off the photos and m² you send us. Most block paving takes a rotary clean for an even finish. If a surface looks like the pressure could lift or damage it, we will soft wash it or tell you straight rather than risk it. We weigh up the drainage as we go so you are not left with puddles everywhere, gather the debris and bag it up, then give it a final rinse.

What we do is clean, re-sand and seal. What we do not do is lift and relay. If your blocks have sunk, dipped or come loose because the base underneath has gone, that is a groundworks job, not a cleaning one. We will tell you honestly if that is what yours needs and point you to someone who lays paving, rather than take the job and leave you with the same problem.

Every job is fully insured with £1 million public liability, the re-sanded finish comes with a weed-free guarantee for 6 to 12 months, and you only pay once the job is done.

How It Works

01

Set up and weigh up drainage

We arrive with the van already packed. The water goes on to fill, then the pressure washer comes out. How we are cleaning it is already decided from your photos, so we get started straight away. First we weigh up the drainage so you are not left with puddles everywhere.

02

Lift the dirt and clear the joints

We lift the top layer of dirt with the rotary cleaner for an even finish, then work into the joints and edges to clear out the weeds and old debris. We take real care over stubborn stains and work at them until they lift. Then we gather the debris, bag it up and dispose of it properly.

03

Treat the surface

Before we re-sand, we treat the cleaned paving so the weeds do not come straight back through the joints. This is what makes the weed-free guarantee hold rather than the green being back in a month.

04

Re-sand the joints with kiln-dried sand

This is the bit that makes it restoration, not just a clean. We brush kiln-dried sand back into every joint so the blocks lock together and stay put. Without this step the blocks shift and the weeds get back in. A lot of people skip it. We never do.

05

Optional seal, then a final rinse

If you want the colour brought up and the finish protected, we can seal it once the sand has settled. Then we give it a final rinse and leave it clean and tidy, the way it should have looked all along. You only pay once it is done.

We understand the concerns

Here's what we hear from clients before they book, and how we put each one right.

Faded blocks, sunken joints, weeds in the gaps?

That is block paving that has lost its sand and its colour over time. Cleaning on its own will not hold it. We clean it, treat it, then re-sand the joints with kiln-dried sand so the blocks lock back together and the weeds have nowhere to grow.

Worried the pressure will blow the sand out?

It will if it is done wrong. That is why we re-sand the joints after, every time. We match the pressure to the surface first, and if a block looks like it could lift or chip, we will soft wash it or tell you straight rather than risk it.

Worried it will come back green?

Weeds do return eventually, in all honesty. But the treat-and-re-sand step keeps the joints sealed up so they stay out for a lot longer. That comes with a weed-free guarantee for 6 to 12 months. Every job is fully insured with £1 million public liability, and you only pay once you are happy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does block paving cleaning cost?

We charge per m². Cleaning is £3.50/m², re-sanding the joints is £2/m², and an optional seal is £3/m². Most jobs are a clean and a re-sand. Send us a photo of your paving and your rough size and we will give you the exact price before we come out. You only pay once it is done.

Can you make old block paving look new again?

In most cases, yes. Once it is cleaned, the joints cleared and re-sanded with fresh kiln-dried sand, tired block paving comes right back up. Seal it after and the colour comes up even more. The main thing that stops paving looking new again is not the dirt, it is blocks that have sunk, and that is a relaying job rather than a cleaning one.

Should I pressure wash my own block paving?

You can, but be careful. The risk with doing it yourself is blowing the sand out of the joints, which leaves the blocks loose and lets the weeds straight back in. That is the whole reason we re-sand after every clean. If you would rather not risk it, send us a photo and we will sort it properly.

Why pay for it when I could do it myself?

Half the job people do not see is the re-sanding and the treating. A jet wash on its own gets the surface looking clean for a few weeks, then the weeds come through and the blocks shift because the joints are empty. We treat it and re-sand it so it stays put and stays clear, and it comes with a guarantee. In all honesty, that is the difference between cleaning it and restoring it.

Do you re-sand the joints, or just blast and leave?

We re-sand, every time. On block paving, cleaning is only half the job. We brush kiln-dried sand back into the joints so the blocks lock together and stay put. Paving that has just been blasted and left is not finished, and it will go back to weedy and loose before long.

Can you fix sunken or loose blocks?

Not by relaying them, no. We clean, re-sand and seal. If your blocks have sunk or come loose because the base underneath has gone, that needs lifting and relaying, which is groundworks. We will tell you honestly if that is what yours needs and point you to someone who does it rather than take the job and leave the problem.

Do you cover Poole as well as Bournemouth?
